EMV Update

A new article has been posted on the TAM Retail blog by Bruce Lode:

Development is underway for EMV capabilities in TAM.   However, there is still much to do, not only for our developers, but also for the processors and middleware providers.  Devices and applications need to be certified, programming specifications need to be decided upon, and options need to be finalized.

In this month, our team received test devices from Mercury Payment Systems (MPS) and have begun processing test EMV cards in a lab environment, so steady progress continues toward the October 1, 2015 deadline.

My team also received a very informative and timely Acrobat file from MPS titled “Is EMV Right for My Business?”.  Even though this digital document is authored by MPS, the evaluation process illustrated applies to all merchants.  Whether your organization utilizes Mercury as a middleware or another middleware, you will find this informative as it covers:

  • General Information About EMV
  • Detail Information on How the EMV Liability Shift Affects Merchants
  • Three (3) Questions All Merchants Need to Evaluate Regarding the Shift
  • Ways to Learn More About EMV and the Liability

To view MPS’s document, click here.

This is just another example of the many useful resources MPS provides us as developers and its merchants.  Keep watching The Assistant Manager blog as we will continue to update you on the progress.  Let us know if you have any questions and we will do our best to help!

  1. Are you also testing EMV with Shift4? We’d really like to be able to start using the EMV and contactless (Apple Pay) options with the Ingenico iSC250’s we have. Other POS systems have already jumped on the Apple Pay bandwagon and we feel like we’re late to the party…

James sorry for the late reply, your comment go lost in the blogosphere. TAM already supports (and has for some time-see past posts) the NFC payments both for Applepay and Andriod wallets. We are working on EMV for Shift 4. The ISC250 devices you already have may need to have their firmware upgraded before the can be used for Applepay. Contact the Help Desk to confirm, this I believe can be accomplished with via remote download. RA software upgrades may be required for the devices as well for EMV use depending on the age of the devices. If this is required, they will need to be sent to a vendor to reflash the firmware. This would definitely be required for MPS but is less likely (but still possible) with S4.
